Florida Residents DEMAND Trump Open Mar-a-Lago As Hurricane Shelter

As Hurricane Irma begins viciously hitting Florida, President Trump has found time to tweet out messages to residents of the Sunshine State and promise $1 million to disaster relief, but now many Floridians are asking that Trump do more.

Specifically, residents of South Florida are saying Trump needs to open his ritzy Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach to those who are desperate for shelter. The Independent reports:

“In some locations, people are arriving at the doors only to be told that there is no room for them there. Frustrated with what has been seen as a lack of communication from local officials – and, in some cases, conflicting messages about where to go – some are asking a simple question: Why hasn’t Donald Trump said he will use his Mar-a-Lago resort as a place of refuge for desperate Americans?”

One Florida resident was incredibly blunt when speaking of Trump’s failure to offer little more than promises:

“He should be doing anything to help the public. When people need help, you either help or you turn your head. I think Trump is turning his head.”

Irma is forecast to cause damage which will require months of repair and cost billions of dollars. Meanwhile, Trump plays golf, tweets, and says his prayers are with Floridians. But talk is cheap, and it would be a wonderful gesture of compassion if indeed the president opened his resort to those in this time of need. Then again, the chance of that happening is about as likely as hurricanes being eliminated from the face of the earth.
