Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is in legal hot water for stealing a song from rap legend Dr. Dre and using it on a video she posted to Twitter Monday.
The video shows Greene walking around the Capitol building, taking a victory lap after helping Kevin McCarthy get elected Speaker of the House last week. The soundtrack is the song “Still D.R.E,” and Greene proudly declaring, “It’s time to begin.. and they can’t stop what’s coming.”
Twitter later pulled the video from its site for blatant copyright infringement, and then Dr. Dre’s legal team took over, NBC News reports.
The letter from Dre’s attorney, Howard King, dated Monday, demands that the Greene immediately cease and desist from using Dre’s music. The letter says she has been using it on social media.
“One might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country. It’s possible, though, that laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist for you to really have spent much time on,” the letter reads. “We’re writing because we think an actual lawmaker should be making laws not breaking laws, especially those embodied in the constitution by the founding fathers.”
Dr. Dre also went after Greene, telling TMZ:
“I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one.”
Greene could have just let the matter drop, but of course a loudmouthed idiot like her couldn’t resist taking one last cheap shot at the person she ripped off, remarking through a spokesperson:
“While I appreciate the creative chord progression, I would never play your words of violence against women and police officers, and your glorification of the thug life and drugs.”
A bigoted piece of fecal matter like Marjorie Taylor Greene has no room criticizing anyone. Dr. Dre should sue Margie for copyright infringement and tie her up in court for years to come.
