Dimwitted Rick Perry Thought Energy Secretary Served As ‘Global Ambassador’ For American Oil Interests

As is already clear from the confirmation hearings of several people Donald Trump has nominated to serve in his cabinet, we are on the verge of having the biggest collection of buffoons, morons, and imbeciles running this country at any time in our history.

Today, former Texas Governor Rick Perry will face a Senate panel as he seeks to become the next Secretary of Energy. But according to a report in the New York Times, when Perry was offered the job, he thought the Secretary of Energy served as:

“Global ambassador for the American oil and gas industry that he had long championed in his home state.”

As Perry himself once said during a GOP debate when he was unable to name the three federal agencies he would eliminate if elected president, “Oops.”

Not to worry, according to Michael McKenna, a Republican energy lobbyist who advised Perry’s failed 2016 presidential campaign and also worked on the Trump transition’s Energy Department team:

“If you asked him on that first day he said yes, he would have said, ‘I want to be an advocate for energy.’ If you asked him now, he’d say, ‘I’m serious about the challenges facing the nuclear complex.’ It’s been a learning curve.”

Yes, this lunkhead who can barely manage to find his way around a complete sentence will now have the responsibility for all things nuclear in our country. How exactly are we supposed to sleep at night knowing that? Does Perry even know what happened at Three Mile Island or, more terrifying, at Chernobyl? Does he care?

The Department of Energy has an annual budget of $30 billion and is charged with maintaining, refurbishing, and securing the nation’s nuclear stockpile, preventing nuclear proliferation, cleaning up and rebuilding aging nuclear production facilities, and overseeing national laboratories that are considered to be some of the finest in the world.

Rick Perry would be in over his head if he had been appointed to trim the flowers in the White House Rose Garden. And now he stands on the brink of being the big kahuna of America’s nuclear arsenal. It might be time we all dig a bomb shelter in our back yards.
