Did Mike Pence Just Make His Own Impeachment Inquiry Inevitable?

Next week, the House Judiciary Committee will take its first formal vote on defining the scope of the impeachment investigation against President Donald Trump, according to Politico:

“The panel could vote as early as Wednesday on a resolution to spell out the parameters of its investigation. The precise language is still being hammered out inside the committee and with House leaders. A draft of the resolution is expected to be release Monday morning.”

And now it appears that another impeachment inquiry may also be in the offing for Vice President Mike Pence, who willingly participated in an act that’s in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution.

You may recall that Pence traveled to Europe this week to meet with various European allies in Poland and Ireland. But Pence and his entourage insisted on staying at a Trump golf resort in Doonbeg, Ireland, even though it was hundreds of miles out of the way from where Pence was scheduled to meet with Irish leaders. And that drew the immediate attention of House Democrats, who have opened an investigation into the matter, CNBC reports:

“In letters made public Friday, leaders of two Democrat-led House committees requested documents and other information from the White House, the Secret Service and the Trump Organization about the two matters. Both committees raised concerns about possible violations of the Constitution’s so-called emoluments clauses, which bar federal officials from accepting payments from foreign governments or profiting beyond their salaries.”

The main committee which has oversight of such matters is the House Oversight Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD). But the House Judiciary Committee led by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) will also be investigating, and that could be a big problem for Pence since that’s the same committee that will opening the impeachment inquiry of Trump next week.

If indeed evidence comes to light that shows Pence was a willing member of what can best be called a conspiracy to enrich the president at the expense of the American taxpayers, he too would be part of a high crime and misdemeanor, and that would immediately make the vice president a candidate for being impeached.

While it’s true that the Republican-led Senate would probably never agree to impeach either Trump or Pence, hearings could expose potentially embarrassing information that would be politically damaging as Trump and Pence seek reelection in 2020.

Mike Pence may have thought he made a wise move when he agreed to be Trump’s Veep. But everything Trump touches turns to shit. And that includes Pence.
