Despite Video Fiasco, Indictments, GOP Still Plans To Investigate Planned Parenthood

Even though the validity of the undercover videos made by the Center for Medical Progress have been completely disproven and the two main figures behind them have been indicted by a Texas grand jury, Republicans announced Tuesday that they will move forward with continued investigation of the women’s healtcare provider.

GOP Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn issued a statement in which she said this about the select committee investigating Planned Parenthood:

“We will continue to gather information and get the facts about medical practices of abortion service providers and the business practices of the procurement organizations who sell baby body parts. These are issues of importance to the American people. We will study the laws on the books and follow the facts to defend life.”

Keep in mind that this new House committee being chaired by Blackburn was created even though a similar one chaired by Rep. Jason Chaffetz found absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood. Numerous state investigations have also come to the same conclusion.

Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s executive vice president, said the now-discredited videos and continued Congressional harassment is clearly an attempt by the GOP and anti-choice foes to advance their own political agenda:

“It’s become totally clear that the only people who engaged in wrongdoing are the criminals behind this fraud. You would hope that other people who now have very clear evidence in this impartial and thorough grand jury proceeding would reconsider some of these attacks.”

Other Republican members of Congress, including Texas Congressman Brian Babin, said they were disappointed by the indictment of the videographers who shot the bogus videos:

“It’s deeply offensive and ridiculous that those who illegally sell aborted human body parts get a pass — while these two pro-life defenders are indicted for using aliases to expose Planned Parenthood’s unlawful and disgusting practices of selling baby body parts. This decision begs the question: how else could they get the truth?”

Perhaps by actually seeking and then reporting the truth, Congressman, instead of creating a fiction which was then used in an attempt to smear an organization that helps millions of women annually. How about that truth?
