Conway Hints Trump May Fire Special Counsel: POTUS Will Hold Mueller ‘Accountable’

While it’s certainly possible that President Trump, as he continually maintains, has no connections whatsoever to Russia, it seems odd that an innocent man would repeatedly threaten to try and get rid of the special counsel investigating the matter.

During an appearance on Fox News Friday morning, White House adviser Kellyanne Conway seemed to suggest that Trump might be looking to try and remove Mueller now that the special counsel is looking into the president’s finances:

“Where is this going? Are Americans comfortable with that, with the taxpayers funding this with this going off of all types of chutes and ladders?”

Then Conway repeated an oft-used administration talking point about members of Mueller’s team being filled with partisans:

“Not only did these Democrat, presumably, lawyers donate a lot of money to the left side of the political aisle, one of them actually was a lawyer for the Clinton Foundation.”

Apparently Ms. Conway has forgotten that special counsel Ken Starr, who investigated President Clinton, was known to be a conservative with deep ties to the GOP.

Host Steve Doocy then tried to assert that Mueller is still angry at Trump for not naming him FBI director when he fired James Comey:

“There are all sorts of conflicts, which it sounds like what the White House is trying to do is, you are trying to put pressure on the team, maybe certain members of the team, legal team on special counsel (to) recuse themselves.”

To that, Conway replied:

“Steve, here’s the relevance of that — people should at least know it. Donald Trump went to Washington to disrupt and expose the system, just to blow that secret door off of its hinges and have more accountability and transparency in a system that thrives on the opposite. So the same applies here. Let’s at least, you know, you’re saying put on pressure — let’s have a disinfectant, let’s at least let the transparency and accountability speak for itself. It’s relevant that people know what the motivations are, and that is not an attack on the team. That is what’s fair is fair.”

Transparency and accountability? How about the president release his tax returns, Kellyanne?

It would appear that the reason President Trump and his legal team are so worried about what the special counsel will find in his financial dealings is precisely because he has something to hide. Innocent people don’t make this much of a ruckus.
