Chuck Todd: Clearly, Donald Trump Has Some Major ‘Daddy Issues’

For months now, we’ve all been trying to gain some sort of insight into Donald Trump as a way of better understanding what motivates him. And Meet the Press host Chuck Todd just helped shed more light on the enigma that is the Donald.

On the Politico podcast “Off Message,” Todd revealed that Trump watches television interviews he has given with the sound off. Why does Trump do that?

“He wants to see what it all looked like.”

Todd then added:

“He will watch the whole thing on mute. He thinks this way, and look, it’s an important insight in just understanding him. The visual stuff is very real beyond just himself.”

And Todd also noted that Trump clearly has “daddy issues,” elaborating on that point by remarking:

“Look, he’s not the first president to have daddy issues. There’s nothing like a parental issue to add a chip…My name is Chuck Todd and I have a chip on my shoulder about my dad…Everybody has the chip.”

What bothers Chuck Todd the most about the President Trump? He never laughs:

“Do you know what? I’ve never seen him laugh. He’ll smile, but he smiles appropriately. He doesn’t really laugh. He looks for others to laugh. It is just weird.”

Here’s some amateur psychoanalysis based on what Chuck Todd told Politico:

  • Trump watches interviews of himself with the sound off: Trump, first and foremost, is a narcissist. He is also consumed with how others view him and what is said about him.
  • The “daddy issue”: Trump has to believe that he has done more as a businessman than his father did. But deep inside he also know that his father had to bail him out financially on numerous occasions. The chip on his shoulder is the size of Mount Rushmore.
  • Not laughing: Trump is socially insecure and fears he might laugh when others don’t, thereby exposing what his sense of humor is triggered by. Also, an inability to laugh could tell us that Trump is a deeply unhappy person who simply doesn’t possess a sense of humor.
No matter how you analyze it, what Chuck Todd said tells us one thing: It’s going to be a long and confusing four years.

Trump doesn’t laugh because he is deeply insecure. You have to be secure within before you can “let go’ and laugh. Trump is insecure so he is always on edge, on alert to defend and protect himself. He constantly has to reassure himself, protect himself thus the insecurity developed into another disorder…narcissism among others. Trump has a garden variety of disorders steming from his insecurity.
