As we draw closer to November 8 and the polls appear to show the race for the White House tightening, many Americans are becoming more alarmed by the prospect of Donald Trump as President. One of those who is sick and tired of the Orange Menace getting a free ride in the media is Bill Maher.
Last night on his HBO show Real Time, Maher had Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway as his guest, and he wasted no time telling her in no uncertain terms that she’s contributing to the rise of an American fascist. Maher told Conway:
“You are enabling pure evil.”
Conway then remarked that she could never vote for Hillary Clinton because she “can’t support someone who lies for a living.” Maher countered her ludicrous assertion by putting some of Trump’s lies back in her face:
“‘I don’t know anything about David Duke.’ Utter lie. ‘Vladimir Putin and I are best friends.’ He never met him. He ‘got a letter from the NFL,’ which was proved never happened. He gave money to the veterans when he didn’t. ‘I was against the Iraq war,’ when it’s on tape that he was not. I don’t have time to go through all of his lies, we only have an hour.”
This is the kind of fact-checking that needs to take place by every member of the media in the last weeks of the 2016 campaign. Trump lies endlessly, and we need to make sure every American knows that this pathological liar and fraud is not fit to hold the highest office in the land.
Maher is also correct about something else: Handlers and advisors such as Kellyanne Conway are indeed contributing to the rise of a tyrant who would destroy this country economically, socially, and internationally. This man is a danger and he must be defeated soundly.
