President Joe Biden was in rare form Monday during the annual White House ceremony to pardon two turkeys who would have otherwise been part of a Thanksgiving meal.
Mediaite reports that this year’s turkeys were named Chocolate and Chip.
After welcoming guests for the turkey pardon, Biden even managed to slip in a dig at Republicans who had been predicting a “red wave” in the midterm elections. Instead, the GOP narrowly won a majority in the House and is on the verge of being on the wrong end of a 51-seat Democratic Senate majority. That will be determined in a December 6 runoff between Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) and Herschel Walker (R).
“Before I gobble up too much time, the votes are in, they’ve been counted and verified, there’s no ballot stuffing, there’s no fowl play. The only red wave this season is gonna be if our German Shepherd, Commander, knocks over the cranberry sauce.”
After that was the formal pardoning of the two birds:
The two lucky turkeys will spend their lives at a bird sanctuary.
