Biden Is Giving House Select Committee Full Access To Trump’s Jan. 6 White House Records

Former President Donald Trump had claimed executive privilege when it came to turning over documents from his time in the White House, especially those that relate to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, but if he was expecting the Biden administration to help him in his effort to withhold information, he was sadly mistaken.

According to Reuters reporter Jan Wolfe, a White House official has been working with the House Select Committee on Jan. 6 to guarantee that the information requested is indeed handed over, with the official telling her:

“Executive Branch agencies have been engaging with Congress on matters relating to January 6 for several months now and will continue to do so, including with the Select Committee.

“The President has been clear that the events of January 6th were an unprecedented assault on our democracy – and he believes they deserve a full investigation to determine what transpired and ensure it can never happen again.”

Today is the deadline for that information to be handed over to the Select Committee, and from what the White House official told Reuters, it certainly sounds like the administration is indeed cooperating fully and giving them the information they want, despite Trump’s claim of executive privilege.

Though it’s impossible at this time to determine exactly what Trump may have known or when he knew about the coordinate attack on the Capitol, if he made any notes or any other forms of communication — phone calls, text messages, emails — at the White House, those will be part of the case against him by the Committee and potentially by the Department of Justice, which could charge the former president and other members of the Trump administration.
