A*shat Georgia GOP Official Calls John Lewis A ‘Racist Pig’ On Facebook

Tommy Hunter is a  Republican member of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners in Georgia, and over the weekend when he heard that Congressman John Lewis had said he didn’t consider Trump to be a “legitimate” president, he decided to post his thoughts on his Facebook page:

Hunter also placed this on his Facebook page:

After getting considerable blowback from such clearly racist and hateful messages, Hunter deleted them from his account and even changed the privacy settings on Facebook so only certain people can now see what he posts. But when contacted by a reporter for comment, Hunter had this to say:

“While I am grateful for what the Congressman did in Selma and other times during the civil rights movement, you get respect by showing respect. He is using his fame as a way to continually divide the races and in this case standing on the very much unsubstantiated claim that the guy I voted for [Trump] is racist and only won because of Russians hacking the election—which, of course, we all know didn’t occur.

“So, true to exactly what the political pundits said would happen, he makes the claim that Trump, and all of us that voted for him, are illegitimate. Therefore I claim [Lewis] is illegitimate and make just as many unsubstantiated claims as [Trump] does. After all, in today’s world, it’s not about the evidence, but the seriousness of the charges.”

Prior to removing his narrow-minded screeds from Facebook, others on social media took Hunter apart for what he had said about Congressman Lewis, with one writing:

“The comments you made about John Lewis are reprehensible. How in the hell people in Gwinnett County could vote for a scumbag like you I don’t know. You should immediately apologize to John Lewis.”

Another had this to say to Hunter:

“It is because of people lacking basic, decent, respect like you that we are now facing the oncoming sh*tstorm of Trump. If you don’t resign, you’ll be driven from office at the next election. We do not need people in office who disrespect true heroes. You will pay for this.”

Dar’Shun Kendrick, a Democrat whose District 93 touches part of Hunter’s Gwinnett territory, responded to Hunter on Twitter:

For his part, Hunter had the nerve to post this on Facebook as his tribute to the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
