Ben Carson’s Syrian Refugee Plan: Money For Halloween Candy Can Support Them

I’ve said this before and apparently it’s necessary to keep repeating it: Ben Carson may be a brilliant man–a doctor, a neurosurgeon!–but when it comes to matters of domestic and foreign policy, he’s a certified idiot.

As evidence of my thesis, I present Dr. Carson’s appearance on “Face the Nation” and “This Week.” Carson, who has just finished visiting Syrian refugee camps in Jordan, remarked:

“They said the United States and other countries could be much more supportive of the Herculean efforts manifested by the Jordanians in taking in people at a lot of expense to themselves. They cannot continue that without help from the international community.”

And where might the money needed to assist the Jordanians and other nations that have accepted refugees? Carson has a brilliant plan for that:

“You know, you look at last month. We spent $3 billion on Halloween candy. That’s the amount of money needed to bridge the shortfall for a year that they’re having in Jordan with the refugees.”

So is he advocating that we just stop buying candy and instead donate money to the refugees? That’s fine if he is, but I want to hear him actually say the words and tell every kid in the United States that Halloween has been officially canceled.

Carson was reminded that the United States already provided $4 billion in humanitarian aid.

But one wonders if Dr. Carson’s mention of Halloween isn’t tied to the fact that he is a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church, which is not exactly fond of “pagan” holidays and celebrations. In publications, the church has written:

“The church’s opposition to the occult and the demonic preclude any support for this type of festival. Participation in Halloween customs may seem innocent fun for children and adults, but it is one more way Satan can use to deceive people into thinking there is no harm in playing a little bit with the world of spirits and demons.”

Now I admit that I’m not a big fan of Halloween, but I sure was when I was a child. How often do you get to go from door to door and beg for candy? It’s a dream come true for kids.

Yet now we hear Ben Carson telling us we have to take that candy money and spend it on the Syrian refugee crisis. That’s noble, no doubt about it. But it’s just about guaranteed to get him named as the Grinch Who Stole Halloween.

Former Head Of U.S. Special Forces: ISIS Would Not Exist If Bush Hadn’t Invaded Iraq

The hawks on the right love to claim that the invasion of Iraq during the George W. Bush Administration was a good thing for Iraq, the United States, and the long-term security of the Middle East, even though it has been proven time and time again to be a bigger myth than unicorns.

Now the former commander of American special forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, says the Iraqi invasion actually helped create newer, more lethal terrorists such as ISIS.

General Flynn told a German newspaper:

“We were too dumb. We didn’t understand who we had there at that moment. When 9/11 occurred, all the emotions took over, and our response was, ‘Where did those bastards come from? Let’s go kill them. Let’s go get them.’ Instead of asking why they attacked us, we asked where they came from. Then we strategically marched in the wrong direction.”

Iraq and Afghanistan were never connected in anyway whatsoever, despite protestations to the contrary by Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice in the runup to the Iraq war. Our invasion merely created a gigantic vacuum which was first filled by al-Qaeda in Iraq and then by ISIS.

Flynn also remarked:

“First we went to Afghanistan, where al-Qaeda was based, then we went to Iraq. Instead of asking ourselves why the phenomenon of terror occurred, we were looking for locations. This is a major lesson we must learn in order not to make the same mistakes again.”

And the retired general also said that he deeply regrets his role in the war against Iraq which has given rise to ISIS and other extremist terror groups:

“It was huge error. As brutal as Saddam Hussein was, it was a mistake to just eliminate him. The same is true for Moammar Gadhafi and for Libya, which is now a failed state. The historic lesson is that it was a strategic failure to go into Iraq. History will not be and should not be kind with that decision.”

Did you hear that, Dick Cheney? A strategic failure. And we lay it all at your feet, Dr. Evil. No doubt you will now try to question the motives and patriotism of a man who served his country with honor and distinction. That’s what miserable weasels do when they’re cornered.

WATCH Chuck Todd Put Trump To Shame: ‘Just Because Someone Repeats It Doesn’t Make It True’

Since David Gregory left as host of “Meet the Press” and was replaced by Chuck Todd, I admit that I rarely watch the show. I don’t care for Chuck Todd. He’s a decent reporter, but as a host I find him more than a bit tiresome.

But today on “Meet the Press,” Todd took GOP frontrunner to task for his inane (and false) comments about Muslims in New Jersey celebrating when the World Trade Center was attacked on September 11, 2001. He told Trump:

“There were three of four different reports that month in New Jersey that said it was a myth. That it was a false rumor. FBI. You name it.”

Trump, of course, refused to admit that he’s wrong and a big fat liar with his pants on fire:

“I saw it on television. And so did many other people and many people saw it in person. I have hundreds of phone calls to the Trump organization saying we saw it. It was dancing in the streets.”

Which was when Chuck Todd nailed the Donald with this:

“Just because somebody repeats something doesn’t make it true.”

Exactly! But Trump was not about to relent when he’s right in the middle of fabricating something:

“I don’t mean I had two calls, Chuck. People were saying they lived in Jersey.”

Todd retorted perfectly:

“People were saying! If I said, ‘Well, people have said Mr. Trump’s not worth $10 billion, and people were saying,’ you would say that’s crazy. You wouldn’t make a business deal based on retweets and based on hearsay.

“You’re running for president of the United States. Your words matter. Truthfulness matters. Fact-based stuff matters.”

At that point, Trump tried to back Todd down by saying:

“Take it easy, Chuck, just play cool. This is people in this country that love our country that saw this by the hundreds they’re calling and they’re tweeting.

“I have a very good memory. I saw it somewhere on television many years ago and I never forgot it. And it was on television too.”

Well, if it was on television, it must be true, right? Just like what we see in the Internet: all of it true.

So allow me to state this “fact” for Donald Trump: I just read somewhere that you are the biggest piece of crap to ever walk the face of the earth. It’s gotta be true, because I read it. Maybe I even saw it on TV.

But wait a minute, I shouldn’t have used that example. Why? Because it’s really true. And the more Trump talks, the truer it becomes.

Carly Fiorina Has Blood On Her Hands, And The Colorado Shooter’s Words Prove It

Carly Fiorina is an accomplice to murder and domestic terrorism. Yes, you read that right, and I will not soften or retract it. Not now, and not ever.

Recall that at the second GOP debate, Fiorina, whom I have called the biggest political liar since Richard Nixon (I will never retract that assertion, either) said that she had personally seen a video taken in a Planned Parenthood clinic which showed:

“I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says, ‘We have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.’ “

No such video exists. Neither Fiorina or her campaign could ever produce such a video. Again, because it doesn’t exist anywhere but in her fevered, self-promoting imagination.

The State vs. Robert Lewis Dear

But the man who killed three in Colorado Springs as part of a domestic terrorist attack on a Planned Parenthood facility told authorities when he was taken into custody:

“No more baby parts.”

Authorities say Dear was ranting against Planned Parenthood, and no doubt referring to the bogus videos released by the so-called Center for Medical Progress, a group which has ties to other domestic terrorist groups which have bombed and set fire to women’s health clinics across they country when they aren’t busy murdering doctors who perform a procedure protected by the U.S. Constitution.

Others With Crimson-Stained Hands

Fiorina is far from the only guilty party when it comes to the type of rhetoric which feeds the deeply simmering hate and paranoia which permeates much of the anti-choice movement in this country. All of the 2016 GOP candidates have said equally inflammatory things about a woman’s right to choose and about Planned Parenthood. Congress, under the control of the Republicans, even held hearings so they could attempt to spread their lies about the organization.

A “Crime Against Women”

U.S Attorney General Loretta Lynch called the Colorado attack a “crime against women,” but it is much more than that. It is a crime against civilized society as we have established it under our system of government. It is terrorism, plain and simple, and those who spewed out the vile lies which in part motivated Robert Dear are also culpable for his crimes.

In the days after the horrific attacks in Paris by ISIS, Republicans said the President should declare war on ISIS and put combat troops into the conflict as a response.

But where are they now that an act of domestic terrorism has been committed on American soil? They are disgustingly silent, as if Robert Dear never even existed.

And to each of them, I offer this indictment: There is blood on your hands, and all the soap and washing in the world can never remove it. Guilty. Each and every one of you is guilty.

ISIS is the biggest threat we face? No. The biggest threat we face lies within, and many of them dare to call themselves patriots. But they are nothing more than cowards and fear mongers. And they too will have their day of reckoning.

Muslim Woman In California Tells Trump: I’m Wearing The ID Badge You Called For

A young Muslim woman from Corona, California, decided she would take up Donald Trump on his call for American Muslims to wear some form of identification showing their religious affiliation, and the letter she wrote and posted on Facebook has gone viral.

Marwa Balkar posted her response letter last week, and since then it has garnered more than half a million “likes” on Facebook, including one from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

And the identifying mark Balkar chose to proudly wear on her shirt? A peace symbol.

Balkar told a local TV station:

“We are still Americans, and I feel like if he’s running to be the leader of our nation, he shouldn’t be alienating us.”

In her Facebook posting, Balkar wrote:

“I heard you wanted us to start wearing ID badges, so I decided to choose one for myself. I am not easily identifiable as a #Muslim just by looking at me, so my new badge will let me display proudly who I am. I chose the peace sign because it represents my #Islam. I heard you want to track us as well. Great! You can come with me on my Cancer Awareness walks at the local middle school, or you can follow me to work where it’s my job to create happiness. You can also see how my local mosque makes PB&J sandwiches for the homeless and hosts interfaith dinners where everyone is welcome.”

Since her social media letter was placed on Facebook, Balkar says she has received positive responses from around the world. One woman wrote and told her:

“Marwa you have more love and compassion and integrity in your heart than Donald Trump has and we can only pray that one day his eyes and ears will be opened to the truth. Good on you for being a remarkable human being Bless you heaps.”

Marwa Balkar has just shown all of us how to best counter hatred and fear: With love, kindness, and creativity.
